toutes en sport - our objectives

summary

our objectives

The "Toutes En Sport ” project aims to promote gender equality and strengthen child protection through the practice of sport in Burundi and Rwanda. Starting in July 2024, this 3-year program is led by PLAY International and focuses on two specific objectives: to promote inclusive sports practice for all children, especially girls, within their communities, and to strengthen the protection of children, especially girls, to ensure dignified, respectful and safe sports practice.

The project involves raising awareness, improving sports infrastructures and training supervisors to create an inclusive and safe sporting environment. It will benefit 4,770 children, including 2,583 girls, and contribute to the empowerment of girls while reducing gender inequalities through sport.

Creating safe and inclusive spaces

Adapted infrastructures

A key focus of the project is the improvement of sports infrastructures to ensure an environment conducive to girls' sporting activities. By 2027, 80% of sports clubs will have facilities to enable inclusive and dignified practice, while 90% of schools will offer mixed and equal sessions. Safe spaces “ will be set up in clubs and schools, with changing rooms and equipment adapted to the specific needs of girls, particularly in terms of menstrual hygiene. The project also distributes sports kits to encourage girls to participate fully in sporting activities.

Strengthening skills

Training for safety

The program focuses on training sports supervisors and teachers to provide them with the tools they need to implement safe and respectful sports practice. 80% of sports supervisors will be trained in managing child safety in sport, including protection against gender-based violence. In addition, sports federations and other institutions will be made aware of the importance of protecting children and girls in sport. Local sports clubs and associations will also be supported to promote innovative and inclusive sporting practices.
